If it’s Just Me and My Sister

It takes a lot to persevere, but let it also take a lot for you to be discouraged.

Araba Africa Coaching.

If It’s just me and my sister- we will still go on this journey.

If it’s just me and my sister, we will still make this happen.

If it’s just me and my sister, we will persevere.

When we start on a journey, a lot of times, it’s just us. I am lucky to have my sister with me. In fact, I have to say my sisters, with me. Many sisters, some are women and men, but they are my sisters. Some are 77 years, some are 54 years, some are 42 years, some are 32 years, and others 21 years, and they are all my sisters.

They are my supporters.

One of our traditional proverbs says that the start of every great thing is with a baby step, and the start of everything is difficult. But often we don’t realize how difficult it can be.The lesson I have learnt in the last few months have just confirmed a lot of these.

When we start something new, often the people we start with are our sisters- our poor family and friends- they are our first supporters.

I started this coaching initiative and began contacting friends who could help me to promote my programme. I called people, texted people, sent Facebook messages, WhatsApp voice notes, anything you can think of. Just to get support from people already in my network.

One of three things happened. The first one is the people who support your idea, believe in the idea, and most importantly believe in you and want to help you to refine and execute your idea, respond to you.

I appreciate all those who have given me a hand, irrespective of their busy schedule. I am generally a shy person, when it comes to asking for support, so thank you for not making me shyer. Lol

The second thing that may happen is people will just not respond to you when you contact them. I have seen a few of those. I wonder if they ever received my messages or are just ignoring me.

I will take the latter, because I see them active on the platforms, I have contacted them on.

Here, follow-up is important, but for me, sometimes, I can sense that a person is just ignoring me- because maybe, they don’t believe in my idea- so I move on.

The last one is the most painful one for me. The people that you trust, have worked with and maybe are people you consider as friends. You speak to them; they promise to help you but somehow, they ghost on you. You contact them and they stop talking to you, they don’t pick up your calls- they ignore you.

See, the start of a journey can be lonely with an enormous amount of silent days-you feel all alone, and maybe a little discouraged if not a lot.

But the truth, as has been told to me by one of my new friends and mentors is that- these things happen because at the start of your initiative, your ideas need to be refined and by all means, I am doing that as much as I can. Also, he mentioned that sometimes, it’s just that people don’t believe in you or they don’t believe that you can achieve that dream.

But I would hope that people will be honest with me and tell me the truth- because if you have given me your word that you will support me, why ghost?

That is one question, the second one is how you will look me in the face later- oow I know.

You will do that thing- where people lie flat in your face and tell you all manner of stories and pretend that they were with you all along.

You see I know how these things plays out!!!!

It gets discouraging- yes it does, but this time, I will not be discouraged- So, if it’s just me and my sister, we will still go on this journey.

Lack of support or approval should not stop you!

This is to encourage people who want to start anything, that not everyone will believe in you, your dreams and aspirations.

So, by all means- go after your goals, by all means persevere and by all means keep pushing. Because your success, is not dependent on the number of people who say NO, who don’t believe in your dreams, nor those who don’t believe in you. It depends on your perseverance.

There is opportunity to grow and become better.

It takes a lot to persevere, but let it also take a lot for you to be discouraged.

Keep pushing!!!!!!
